Frying food is as dangerous as it is dirty - most pumps cannot be properly cleaned after processing hot oil. Leaked hot oil on the floor becomes a slippery safety hazard as well as a fire hazard. Maintaining proper sanitation and changing and purchasing seals takes time and, worst of all, increases downtime. We know that cleaning and maintaining pumps literally keeps you and your team awake at night.

We understand your predicament. We have experience in 27 countries providing hygienic pump solutions for small and large food manufacturers across the globe. We also appreciate the unique challenges and skill involved in working with large quantities of scathing-hot cooking oil - it’s no mean feat.

Above all else, we know the importance of hygiene and the value of a pump to do the job right. A one-pump-fits-all doesn't work. Instead, for optimal ROI and to reduce downtime during hot oil processing, the Packo Cantilever pump is the way to go.

Fire Hazard Concerns

During the manufacture of large quantities of fried food that require even larger quantities of hot oil for preparation, it’s not a case of if something will go wrong, but when. Ask the owners and workers at the potato processing plant in Europe that burnt to the ground as a result of a fire that started in their hot oil processing area. Or the staff at the processing plant in the USA who fortunately acted fast to put out a fire that also started in their hot oil area, luckily preventing any injury or loss of life.

A fire threatens life, livelihood, reputation and the entire organization’s survival

Eliminate hot oil pump leaks to reduce the risk of a hazardous work environment and a potentially fatal plant fire.

Downtime Frying Fiasco

The mechanical seals in commonly used centrifugal pumps are exposed to high temperature oil and product particulates. As a result, seals eventually become compromised. Leaks are then inevitable. The repercussions of leaks include fires, contamination, slips and staff endangerment. This would be compromising health and safety regulations and leaving the company financially vulnerable to litigation as well as fines and any number of unexpected costs and potential loss of income.

This means these traditional pumps require more scheduled downtime for regular maintenance and pose the threat of more unforeseen downtime when their pump seals fail.

A cantilever pump solution would eliminate the problem of pump seal leakage by eliminating the seal altogether. This protects the whole system from wear and tear of hot oil and any resulting formation of difficult to clean stearine. Packo cantilever pumps will require far less scheduled and unplanned downtime leading to increased product yield.

Let’s get Down and Lower Maintenance

The unpredictable effects of the hot oil and the abrasive by-product stearine on the seals of the standard, more common pumps make it difficult to predict when these pumps may begin to leak. Therefore, they require frequent checks, constant vigilance and regular routine maintenance, all of which brings production to a stop.

No product means no income. This is the high cost of a high maintenance pump.

A lower maintenance cantilever pump produces more for longer periods of time, in a safer and more predictable way, with less risk of lost income.

Established manufacturers know that reliable and cost-effective equipment plays a vital role in creating a superior product and a sustainable business.

Cheaper equipment often costs more in the long-term due to its inefficiency or unreliability.

However, superior equipment need not cost an excessive amount either.

Seeking Sanitation

It is dangerous and erroneous to assume the extremely high temperatures of oil immediately means that it is clean and safe. Leaking seals not only let oil out but may also allow contaminates in.

Moreover, many pumps currently processing hot oil in frying systems are made of cast iron. Cast iron pumps are initially viewed as a cheaper alternative to stainless steel. However, cast iron pumps do not hold up well to high temperature frying oil and they are not compatible with typical cleaning chemicals. Cast iron pumps and impellers will wear far sooner than stainless steel ones. Furthermore, the superior electropolished stainless steel used to make the cantilever pumps, create easily cleaned surfaces that are uninhabitable for bacteria and other contaminants.

Safety, Safety… and then Safety

Centrifugal and other pump styles have serious safety limitations when processing hot oil. With just a seal between the blistering oil and the outside world, there are any number of worst-case scenarios that could play out. The mechanical seal in other standard pumps means that leaks will happen.

With no mechanical seal, the cantilever pump is considerably safer than standard pumps.

It works towards eliminating the kind of damage that has massive financial implication to an organisation and their most valuable asset, the employees.

Staff safety must be of paramount importance, and a safe pump when dealing with dangerously hot oil seems a simple and obvious investment towards increased safety both in the lives of employees, as well as their livelihood.

Sustainable, cost effective and safe – the ideal solution trio

A cantilever centrifugal pump is an investment in upholding your reputation, keeping your staff safer delivering on your promises of quality products and spending far less time and money cleaning up the mess of an oil leak.
