Are you fast or last?

How Recruiters are Losing Out on LinkedIn Robots

Making it in recruiting these days is a matter of speed. The industry has exploded onto the internet and trying to match the ideal candidate with the ideal client has become like deep sea fishing with a piece of sewing thread. It is so easy for the big ones to get away.

Many factors contribute to the industry becoming even more competitive.  High employment rates are good for the economy but it makes your work a lot harder, doesn’t it.  Then there is Brexit and globalisation bringing along a degree of economic uncertainty that forces recruiters to apply their minds to talent management and attracting (and retaining) the big fish in their respective ponds.

The 2017 LinkedIn Talent Solutions Global Recruiting Trends report identified amongst other interesting trends, the importance of social media in the recruitment industry.  Being able to recruit diverse candidates was another growth area the report highlighted. Professional social networks have positively impacted the quality of candidates hired in the industry, LinkedIn found.

I know you get this.  I know that you are already out there flying your LinkedIn flag. What you don’t know yet, is how much easier your life can be if you use the power of LinkedIn and marry it with email.  Let me explain.

1. LinkedIn

A simple automated search of your target market on LinkedIn will reveal countless opportunities. They will probably be located all over the country and all over the world. Majestic3 connects with them for you from a LinkedIn profile who clearly represents your agency or company, add a personal message… and away you go.

Once you connect with them, a second automated yet personal message will let them know you will be keeping in touch via email.

LinkedIn is the number one tool for creating business contacts. Alas, it is terrible for building long term relationships. Awful in fact. When it comes to nurturing and building relationships, McKinsey research confirms that email beats all social media combined.

However, if your contact doesn’t recognize you, they will delete your mail and flag you as spam. How do you get email addresses who are willing to talk to you? And how do you write your messages correctly? The answer lies in combining LinkedIn with email.

2. Email

To get the most from your Business to Business connections, avoid sending them typically scary newsletters about the state of the economy and underhanded employees. Let them become involved. Ask them to update all their contact details. Take them on a journey of video clips and exciting stories about the positive impact a good team can have on their organisation.

The trick is to write heart-felt welcome letters. Be personalised and start the process on taking the reader on a virtual journey.

3. Journey engagement scoring system

Each week your email database receives a section of that article, drip feeding them with pertinent insights.

Score your contacts based on engagement : Did they open an email? Did they click to the view the full article, or to read a case study or to watch a video? Did they view your LinkedIn profile? Did they like or comment on an article? The more they interact, the higher their score will be.

When they reach a certain score, they are then considered qualified leads. Place them into your CRM or sales cycle for calling and closure.
